Clients regularly ask which data sits behind a Minds audience. This page is the answer, and it is meant to be shared.

Minds does not maintain a fixed, licensed panel. Every audience is grounded at build time against public sources selected for the specific research question, so the exact set of sources differs per audience and is always cited in the result.

## How we use these sources

**Group grounding** runs when an audience is created. It works in four steps:

1. **Search.** The research question and audience definition are turned into targeted queries against public web and document sources.
2. **Extract.** Structured distributions — demographics, psychographics, socioeconomics, behaviour, geography, firmographics — are pulled from the candidate sources. Numbers are read from the source; they are never invented to fill a gap.
3. **Score.** Each source receives a confidence weight based on what kind of body published it (see below). Government and peer-reviewed sources outrank commercial ones.
4. **Cite.** Every distribution that shapes the audience is attached to the source it came from, and surfaces in the product as a clickable citation. If the evidence is too weak, the audience returns no distribution rather than a guessed one.

Because selection happens per question, a German B2B audience and a Japanese consumer audience will ground against entirely different institutions — the list below is the universe we draw from, not a fixed bundle applied to every study.
